A faint meowing of a cat was heard from beside a US Postal Service truck in Manhattan, New York. A female cat about 10 to 12 weeks old was trapped in the vehicle’s chassis and engine compartment for two days. Despite the repeated attempts by the postal staff and passers-by to rescue the frightened kitten, it still couldn’t hide and even failed to trap the food.
John Debuck, the vice president of the Long Island Cat Rescue Organization, learned of this and drove to the scene the next day. At the suggestion of the postman Carlos Bravo, the rescue team opened the hatch inside the truck. Eventually, Debuck successfully rescued the mottled tiger-striped kitten from the corner beside the steering wheel. “She was so scared at that time that she didn’t even see me,” Debuck recalled.
The kitten was named “Stella”. After being neutered, it was placed in foster care by a hero who participated in the rescue and was eventually adopted permanently. Debuck said, “The feeling of saving lives is unparalleled.” The United States Postal Service also expressed its gratitude to the participants for their collaboration.
