When a California woman who had just been diagnosed with breast cancer saw the abandoned tailcoat cat Mochi on the shelter’s website, reason told her that “the timing was bad” – she had just lost a beloved cat and was facing surgery. But fate brought Mochi back two days before the operation.
Not long after, she found that Mochi’s abdomen was swollen and she stopped playing. Despite others thinking she was overly worried, she insisted on seeking medical treatment and was eventually diagnosed with feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). This virus, which was once nearly incurable, now has a new treatment. Mochi recovered after timely treatment.
Even more astonishingly, taking care of Mochi became her spiritual pillar throughout her battle against cancer. Nowadays, she announced her recovery from cancer: “We saved each other.” The emergence of Mochi is by no means accidental. This story of “mutual healing” attests to the bond between humans and pets that transcends rationality.
