MILWAUKEE, WI — When Emilie Rackovan, founder of Thrifted Kittens Animal Rescue, first saw an intake photo of a tiny, oil-covered kitten at Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC), she knew he needed help.
“He was completely defeated—covered in oil, with patches of missing fur. The shelter staff did their best, but he wasn’t thriving there,” Rackovan told [Publication Name].
The rescue quickly stepped in, and volunteer Haley took the kitten—later named Stuart Little—into her foster home. After multiple baths to remove the oily residue, the frail feline began to relax, purring nonstop as he adjusted to his new, quiet surroundings.
A Tiny Fighter with a Big Spirit
At just 2.5 pounds, veterinarians estimated Stuart to be between six and nine months old—far smaller than he should be. Despite his size, his energy and curiosity quickly became apparent.
“He acts like he’s on a big adventure, just like his namesake,” said Haley.
After a veterinary exam, rescuers discovered Stuart likely has a congenital heart condition affecting his growth. Still, his appetite improved dramatically in foster care, and his coat grew fluffier and cleaner.
A Team Effort for a Brighter Future
With support from foster volunteers like Kayla, Stuart now enjoys a spacious room filled with toys and soft blankets. His playful personality has flourished—he chases toys, stands on his hind legs, and explores every corner with confidence.
“He’s gone from a scared, greasy kitten to a happy little adventurer,” Rackovan said.
While Stuart’s long-term health remains a concern, his rescuers are committed to ensuring he gets the best care possible. They credit MADACC for giving him a second chance and thank foster volunteers for opening their homes.
For now, Stuart Little is thriving—surrounded by love, chin scratches, and the promise of a brighter future.
