A cat owner was stunned to discover her pet hiding in the attic after placing her phone up there to investigate strange activity—only to find her cat calmly stretched out among the wooden beams.
The viral video, posted by TikTok user Amanda Gennardo (@amandagennardo), shows her reaching up with her phone to record the attic. Her goal was to check for anything unusual. When she played the footage back, she was surprised to see her cat lounging above her head.
At first glance, the attic appears empty. But as the camera pans across, her cat is revealed, lying across the beams in a pose that sparked laughter across social media. Text over the video reads: “Putting my camera in the attic hoping my cat isn’t up there.”
Since being posted, the clip has gained over 10.6 million views and more than 2 million likes. Gennardo seemed to enjoy the surprise, captioning the post: “do you see him?”
TikTok users flooded the comments with jokes and disbelief. One user wrote, “No sign of him up here boss,” while another said, “There’s a suspiciously cat-shaped object in your attic.” A third commented: “There’s a nice gentleman up there helping you look for your cat!”
Cats are well-known for finding hidden, cozy spots to relax. According to Hill’s Pet Nutrition, this behavior stems from their wild ancestors, who often sought safe, enclosed spaces to rest or avoid predators. These hiding places can include cardboard boxes, closets, laundry baskets, or, in this case, attics.
Experts say that while cats usually seek these spots to feel secure and warm, hiding can sometimes signal stress or discomfort. Providing cats with designated hiding places can help them feel safe and reduce anxiety.
As Gennardo’s video proves, cats will always keep their owners guessing—and sometimes, that means checking the attic.
