Arthur, a 15-year-old tuxedo cat, is known for his strong territorial nature. When a plumber worked near his cupboard, Arthur sat by the worker’s feet and meowed nonstop. Surprisingly, the plumber responded with a “meow” of his own, creating a charming exchange that caught the attention of millions online.
Since being posted on May 28, the video of Arthur and the plumber has gone viral, earning 2.7 million views. The cat’s owner, who shares Arthur’s antics under the TikTok handle @mrmeowsalot, explained, “He loves a good moan,” and added that this behavior is typical for Arthur.
The clip, captioned “Telling the plumber to get out of his cupboard,” has also gained 610,900 likes and over 1,200 comments. Fans of the video praised the plumber’s response, with one user writing, “I LOVE that he was responding to the cat,” earning nearly 148,000 likes. Others joked about the plumber’s “fluent cat” skills or shared that cats often complain if humans are in the kitchen and not feeding them.
Cats use meowing to communicate for many reasons. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) lists common causes such as greeting owners, seeking attention, asking for food, wanting to go in or out, or showing signs of age-related confusion. Unneutered cats may also meow to find mates.
Some breeds are naturally more talkative, but frequent meowing could signal health problems. The ASPCA advises cat owners to consult a veterinarian if meowing seems excessive, as conditions like overactive thyroid or kidney disease can cause changes in vocal behavior.
Arthur’s viral moment reminds us that cats have unique ways to express themselves—and sometimes, even plumbers join the conversation.
