Grand Falls-Windsor, NL — When Natalie saw the photo of a wide-eyed gray tabby kitten named Earl at the Exploits Valley SPCA, she wasn’t looking to adopt. But fate had other plans.
Earl—now Benny—arrived at the shelter with his mother, Rose, and two brothers, Tetley and Grey. Described as the boldest of the litter, the adventurous kitten scaled cat trees while his siblings clung closer to their doting mom.
Just days before, Natalie’s family had lost their beloved calico cat, Paige, leaving their home eerily quiet. “The house felt empty, but I wasn’t sure we were ready for another cat,” Natalie admitted. That changed the moment she held Benny. The tiny tabby nuzzled into her arms, purring softly—an instant connection.
A Serendipitous Bond
Benny’s adoption brought more than just playful energy. The family had made a memorial pillow featuring Paige’s image, and to their surprise, Benny claimed it as his favorite napping spot. “He curls up beside it like he’s snuggling with her,” Natalie said. “It’s as if Paige sent him to us.”
The kitten’s tender gesture has been a balm for their grief. “It’s been so healing,” Natalie shared.
A Happy Ending for the Whole Family
Benny wasn’t the only one who found a forever home. His brother Tetley was adopted alongside their mother, Rose, while Grey went to another loving family.
Now, Benny fills the house with laughter and mischief—a joyful reminder that sometimes, the right pet finds you. “He’s stolen our hearts,” Natalie said. “We didn’t know we needed him until he was here.”
