MINNEAPOLIS — The popular Wedge LIVE! Cat Tour is back for its eighth year, promising more feline fun and community spirit than ever before.
The annual event, set for June 25, begins at 6 p.m. in Mueller Park. Attendees can enjoy free face painting, and Minneapolis Animal Care & Control will be on-site with cats available for adoption. Cat owners in the Wedge neighborhood can also register their homes online to be part of the tour route.
Started in 2017 by John Edwards of Wedge LIVE! — a local news outlet — the cat tour has grown into a beloved community tradition. Last year, more than 500 people joined the event, and it gained national attention with features in the Washington Post, ABC News, and People.
This year’s tour is expected to be the largest yet. Edwards told Bring Me The News that nearly 50 households have signed up, many showcasing more than one cat — the most in the event’s history. He also noted that interest continues to grow, saying this year could be “bigger and better attended than ever.”
Adding to the excitement, PBS producer Steven Latham of Shelter Me will be present with a camera crew to capture the event.
Inspired by the success in the Wedge, a similar “copycat” tour debuted last week in St. Paul’s Hamline-Midway neighborhood. That event featured a 2.5-mile route and about 20 cat-viewing stops.
As the Wedge Cat Tour prepares to take over the streets once again, it continues to highlight the strong bonds between cats, their owners, and the community they call home.
