New York, NY — A resilient stray cat, later named Lincoln, has captured hearts after his determined efforts to find safety led to a joyful rescue.
From Hardship to Hope
Last month, the white-and-orange tabby was spotted scavenging for food near dumpsters at a public housing complex. For weeks, he survived on scraps, dodged traffic, and even slept inside car engines to stay warm. His luck changed when a concerned bystander alerted Little Wanderers NYC, a local rescue organization.
“He was clearly struggling but never lost his friendly nature,” a Little Wanderers representative shared. “Once he gained confidence, he started seeking attention—almost as if he was asking to be rescued.”
A Plea for Help
Lincoln charmed everyone he met, rubbing against legs and meowing softly for affection. Volunteers noted his desperation for food, devouring every meal offered. Recognizing he wasn’t cut out for street life, Little Wanderers intervened.
“Despite being overwhelmed with rescue requests, Lincoln’s case was undeniable,” the team said.
When a volunteer arrived to collect him, the grateful cat emerged from his hiding spot and rushed to greet her. “He was cold, hungry, and filthy—but so ready for help,” they recalled. After eating, he celebrated by rolling on the ground, as if convincing his rescuer to take him in.
A New Beginning
Rescued just before Presidents’ Day, Lincoln was named in honor of the holiday and whisked to a vet for a full checkup. Staff were immediately smitten by his affectionate demeanor. “Through everything, he never stopped showing love. He deserves safety and warmth,” the rescue shared.
Placed in foster care with volunteer Linda, Lincoln wasted no time making himself at home. Within minutes, he discovered a catnip toy, wrestling it with glee. After a soothing bath, he lounged on a scratcher, purring contently.
Ready for a Forever Home
Three weeks post-rescue, Lincoln has transformed into a playful, trusting companion. Now fully vetted and thriving, he’s awaiting adoption. “Friendly cats like him struggle outdoors—they’re not built for survival,” Linda noted. “But Lincoln’s perseverance saved him.”
