When Gianna Cirucci, co-founder of Foster the Furbabies, answered a call to help a cat with special needs, she didn’t expect to take in two—but the unbreakable bond between Arthur and Muffy made the decision an easy one.
A Rescue Mission Turns into a Pair
Arthur, a tabby missing part of his hind leg, needed specialized care beyond what the shelter could provide. Gianna, experienced with special-needs cats, immediately offered to take him in. But then she learned Arthur had arrived with another cat—his devoted companion, Muffy.
“They asked if we’d take her too,” Gianna told Love Meow. “After seeing a video of them grooming each other, I couldn’t separate them.”
Unexpected Challenges and Unwavering Support
Upon arrival, both cats required treatment for pneumonia, delaying Arthur’s planned leg surgery. While he wore a cast, veterinarians discovered an old injury in his front leg that had begun healing on its own.
Despite his pain, Arthur remained affectionate and resilient—with Muffy never far from his side. The shy but protective tabby groomed him, snuggled close, and even helped him trust humans more.
“Arthur was so brave and trusting right away,” Gianna said. “Muffy was his rock, comforting him through everything.”
A Bond Like No Other
The pair’s connection amazed their foster mom. “I’ve fostered hundreds of cats and never seen two so bonded,” Gianna said. They nap intertwined, demand belly rubs, and follow Gianna around—Arthur circling her legs while Muffy nuzzles her face.
Now recovering in foster care, the duo is thriving. Arthur’s surgery will proceed once he’s stronger, but one thing is certain: they’ll face the future together.
“I thought I was saving one cat,” Gianna reflected. “But taking them both was the best decision—they’re inseparable, helping each other heal.”
With dedicated care and each other’s love, Arthur and Muffy’s toughest days are behind them.
