Montreal, QC – A newborn kitten, weighing just 55 grams (nearly two ounces), has stunned rescuers with her fierce determination to survive after being abandoned by her mother.
A Fragile Beginning
Minimo, a tiny black kitten, was found alongside her littermates after their mother cat disappeared shortly after giving birth. A concerned community member rushed to save the newborns and worked to safely trap the mother—though she later refused to care for them.
Upon arrival at Chatons Orphelins Montréal, rescuers realized Minimo was critically underweight—half the size of her siblings—and struggling to survive. “She was just skin and bones, and her mouth was too tiny to latch onto a bottle,” the rescue shared. “Her chances seemed slim.”
Round-the-Clock Care
Minimo’s foster mom provided hourly feedings and constant warmth, as the kitten couldn’t regulate her body temperature. After days of tireless effort, Minimo began gaining strength. By two weeks old, she mastered bottle-feeding, opened her eyes, and even attempted her first wobbly steps.
From Struggle to Triumph
Now three weeks old, Minimo weighs 295 grams—over five times her initial weight—and sports a plush “house panther” coat. “She’s vocal, demanding food with gusto, and eats quickly,” her carers report. Though once frail, she now playfully bats at toys and waves her paws with kittenish bravado.
A Bright Future Ahead
Minimo will soon join other foster kittens to socialize and develop her feline skills. Her journey—from a fragile newborn to a thriving, spirited kitten—proves that even the smallest fighters can conquer the toughest odds.
