Brisbane, Australia – A cream tabby cat, once struggling to survive on the streets, has found safety and a second chance after a compassionate family took her in—just in time for her to deliver five healthy kittens.
The cat, later named Oriana, had been living as a stray, often hiding in drains to escape neighborhood children. Her luck changed when she wandered onto the doorstep of a kind family, who began feeding her. Recognizing her friendliness and insatiable appetite, they took her to a veterinarian, where they discovered she was pregnant.
With no microchip and no owner coming forward, the family reached out to Best Friends Felines, a local rescue organization. Volunteers quickly placed Oriana in a foster home, where she immediately settled in, displaying an affectionate and trusting nature.
“She’s very sweet and cuddly, loves head rubs, and snuggles right into you,” a foster carer shared. As her belly grew, so did anticipation—until Oriana gave birth to five kittens in the middle of the room, preferring to stay close to her caregivers rather than a secluded den.
“Most cats seek privacy during birth, but Oriana wanted to be near her humans,” the rescue noted. By nightfall, she had moved all five kittens—each a dilute calico with gray, white, and cream markings—into a cozy nest.
Now thriving in foster care, the kittens are steadily gaining weight under Oriana’s attentive care. “She’s a devoted but relaxed mother,” her carers said. “After feeding them, she enjoys quiet time with her humans, purring and snuggling.”
No longer facing the hardships of street life, Oriana and her kittens will soon be ready for adoption, ensuring a bright future for the once-stray feline family.
