A malnourished kitten, found abandoned behind a tire at a job site, has made a miraculous recovery after weeks of dedicated care—transforming from a frail, flea-ridden stray into a vibrant, energetic young cat.
A Fight for Survival
The kitten, named Furby, was discovered over a month ago in dire condition—emaciated, severely infested with fleas, and missing patches of fur due to malnutrition. Rescuers quickly reached out to Deej, co-founder of Inked Kittens Club, a kitten rescue organization.
“As soon as she arrived, it was clear she was very sick,” Deej told Love Meow. At just seven weeks old, Furby faced panleukopenia, a deadly feline virus with only a 10% survival rate for kittens her age.
Despite the odds, Furby clung to life, purring and kneading (“making biscuits”) as if determined to pull through. With round-the-clock care—including fluids, syringe feedings, and medication—she slowly regained strength.
A Remarkable Transformation
After a week of intensive treatment, Furby began eating on her own—a turning point in her recovery. “When she started willingly eating, I knew we were in the home stretch,” Deej said.
Initially, the timid kitten barely left her bed except to use the litter box. But as her health improved, so did her confidence. “The moment she decided to trust me, we became inseparable,” Deej shared.
Her fur, once patchy and thin, grew back lush and soft, revealing an unexpectedly playful personality. “She has two moods: grumpy face or blepping her tongue. The more I watch her, the funnier she gets,” Deej laughed.
A Kitten with Big Personality
Now three months old, Furby has become a spirited, affectionate companion. She demands attention by pawing at Deej’s hand mid-pet and has developed a love for stuffed toys—especially a plush snake she “battles” nightly.
After being isolated during her recovery, Furby thrived once introduced to other cats. She eagerly taught them how to play, though she still enjoys chasing human feet around the house.
From Gremlin to Glow-Up
“It’s hard to believe she was once this scraggly little gremlin,” Deej said. Today, Furby sports long, tufted ears and a luxuriously fluffy coat—a far cry from her early days.
“She’s still got a goofy head and the weirdest fur texture, but I’m completely obsessed with her,” Deej admitted.
Furby’s journey—from a struggling stray to a beloved, energetic cat—proves that with care, resilience, and a little love, even the most vulnerable animals can thrive.
