Union County, A frightened young cat and her newborn kittens were given a second chance thanks to a Good Samaritan and a dedicated rescue team.
Earlier this month, a local resident discovered the cat and her tiny litter in his garage and immediately brought them to a nearby shelter. Volunteers noticed one kitten had a leg deformity and reached out to Inked Kittens Club, a cat rescue organization, for specialized care.
“They asked if we could take them in, and even though we’ve been busy with kitten care, I said of course,” Deej, co-founder of Inked Kittens Club, told Love Meow.
A Timid Beginning
With the help of transport volunteer Holly, the feline family was safely delivered to Deej within the hour. Upon arrival, rescuers realized the mother cat was only six to seven months old—barely more than a kitten herself—and her newborns were premature.
“She was petrified and didn’t want to do much mothering at first,” Deej said. The shy cat stayed curled in her carrier, cautiously nursing her kittens but hesitantly accepting treats and gentle pets from her foster mom.
A Turnaround in Trust
Deej set up a cozy, secluded space for the family, and within 24 hours, the young mother began to relax—stretching out, purring, and kneading her blanket.
“Once she felt safe in a private area, she started coming out of her shell,” Deej shared. Soon, the cat would roll onto her back when Deej entered the room, nuzzling her kittens and purring loudly.
A breakthrough came a week later when the cat willingly left her nesting box to snuggle with Deej in daylight. “That’s when I knew we’d made real progress,” Deej said. “It was such a relief that she finally trusted me.”
Kittens Flourish Under Mom’s Care
Over two weeks, the kittens hit key milestones—opening their eyes, gaining weight, and even wobbling around on strengthening legs. The smallest kitten, initially struggling with a leg deformity, showed improvement.
Meanwhile, the once-fearful mother blossomed into a doting parent. “She’s the sweetest thing—loves belly rubs, ear scratches, and ‘making biscuits,’” Deej said. “She’s so proud of her babies.”
Now thriving in foster care, the cat enjoys indoor life with her playful litter climbing over her as she purrs contentedly.
A Bright Future Ahead
Thanks to Inked Kittens Club, this young family is on track for a happy ending. Once the kittens are weaned and adopted, their mother will be spayed and ready for a forever home where she can finally live as a cherished pet—no longer struggling to survive, but thriving in safety and love.
