A curious cat named Nacho has become an internet sensation after his owner caught him spying in a way that seemed almost human.
In a TikTok video shared by Joshua Paiva (@jpaiva), Nacho, an orange tabby, is seen peeking through a curtain with an intense gaze. The video, which has now been viewed over 8.4 million times and liked more than 1.3 million times, starts with the curtain gently swaying. Then, a single orange paw appears, slowly pulling the curtain back to reveal Nacho watching his owner in silence.
“Why is bro checking on me like this,” reads the text over the video. In the caption, Paiva wrote: “This cat is basically human.”
Viewers were quick to comment on Nacho’s oddly human-like behavior. One user asked, “Are you sure he’s a cat?” Another joked, “He walks on two legs when you’re not around.”
“That would freak me out a bit honestly,” said one viewer. Another wrote: “Waiting for you to leave so he can be mischievous and chaotic.”
While the clip is funny, Nacho’s behavior taps into natural feline instincts. According to Feline Behavior Solutions, cats often seek out secure, hidden spots to feel safe, similar to their wild ancestors who used secluded places to avoid predators or care for their young.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) notes that hiding can sometimes signal anxiety, but most of the time it’s a way for cats to relax. Hill’s Pet Nutrition lists some common favorite hideouts for cats: cardboard boxes, which offer warmth and a sense of security; under beds, where it’s quiet and smells like their owner; and laundry baskets filled with either clean or dirty clothes, providing comfort and familiar scents.
Nacho’s stealthy peek through the curtain might seem unusual, but for cat owners, it’s just another reminder of their pets’ quirky—and often very relatable—behavior.
