Recently, a cat named Charlie has become popular on Instagram for its unique “prayer” gesture, attracting more than 180,000 followers. This cat habitually raised its PAWS to its mouth, repeating the action as if begging or praying, which sparked heated discussions among netizens.
Charlie was adopted in 2020 and was found in the wild with his siblings when he was a child. The owner initially thought he was begging for food, but this behavior gradually became his daily habit and was even captured by a night camera. Although the owner is not sure of the reason, it is speculated that it might be related to his difficult experiences in his childhood, which could lead to repetitive and stereotyped behaviors. Veterinarians remind that if a pet shows abnormal behavior, health problems should be investigated first.
There is also the view that Charlie’s behavior might have been initially caused by facial itching, and the owner’s attention unintentionally intensified this action. Similar cases show that although the “prayer” behavior of cats is rare, it is not an isolated case.
