CLIFTON – After struggling to survive as a stray, an affectionate orange tabby named Louie is finally getting the love he deserves—thanks to his irresistible bear hugs.
The sweet-natured cat was brought to Clifton Animal Shelter last month after rescuers realized he was too gentle for life on the streets. “He’s incredibly trusting and affectionate—traits that made him vulnerable outdoors,” a shelter representative shared.
A New Lease on Life
Upon arrival, Louie quickly settled in, relishing pets from volunteers and veterinary care. The roughly one-year-old tabby curled up in his kennel with a green pillow, soaking up the safety and comfort of shelter life.
“It’s clear he was never meant to be a stray,” staff noted. “He thrives on human connection—purring, snuggling, and gazing up at anyone who passes by.”
The Power of a Purr-fect Hug
When adoption interest lagged, Louie took matters into his own paws. During a visit, he wrapped his arms around a volunteer’s neck, nuzzled her face, and refused to let go.
“He buried his head in her shoulder and purred nonstop,” the shelter wrote. “At that moment, we knew his loving spirit would win someone over.”
The shelter shared photos and videos of Louie’s endearing hugs, showcasing his sweet, social personality.
A Happy Ending
The campaign worked. Thanks to a viral social media push, Louie recently left the shelter for his forever home, where he’ll have all the cuddles he craves.
“This boy deserves endless love,” the shelter said. “And he’ll return it tenfold.”
