When volunteers from Tails High, an animal rescue organization, responded to a call about a friendly cat in a feral colony, they discovered more than they expected—a heartbreaking scene of neglected shelters and a sociable feline who didn’t belong on the streets.
A Friendly Stranger in the Shrubs
The team arrived to find a striking long-haired cat emerging from the bushes, tail held high. Unlike the skittish feral cats in the area, this one approached confidently, sniffing the volunteer’s hand and rubbing against nearby objects.
“After speaking with locals who feed the colony, we learned that this cat and a few others had recently appeared—likely abandoned,” Tails High shared.
The affectionate cat, later named Rabbit Foot after a good luck charm, was clearly accustomed to human companionship. She eagerly accepted food and attention, signaling she was ready for a real home.
A Second Cat in Need
As the volunteer prepared to leave with Rabbit Foot, a gray tabby lingered nearby, cautiously eyeing the food. Community members revealed this cat, too, had been left behind—reportedly by a family that moved away months earlier.
Though Rabbit Foot was the priority that day, the team vowed to return for the tabby.
A New Life Indoors
Rabbit Foot thrived immediately after rescue. After being spayed, she settled into her foster home, relishing the comfort of a warm bed and human affection. Her sweet nature made her an instant favorite, and she was adopted before even being officially listed.
Meanwhile, the team kept their promise. When the gray tabby—now named Ladybug—was spotted again, they rushed to bring her to safety.
A Happy Ending for Both
Now indoors, Ladybug has transformed into a loving, curious companion. “She’s safe, getting lots of love, and is a total doll,” the rescue shared.
While their pasts were marked by abandonment, both cats now have bright futures. Rabbit Foot is enjoying her forever home, while Ladybug awaits adoption in a caring foster home.
Tails High reminds the public that resources exist for animals in need: “Open-intake shelters and rescue groups work tirelessly to help. No cat deserves to be left behind.”
Thanks to compassionate volunteers, these two felines have traded hardship for warmth, safety, and love.
