GREENPOINT, NY—A once-homeless orange tabby named Mango has traded life on the streets for the lap of luxury, earning a reputation as the ultimate “weighted blanket” cat.
A Rough Start
Mango, a four-year-old orange-and-white feline, was abandoned after being turned away from the bodega he once called home. Forced to scavenge for food, the friendly tomcat struggled outdoors until volunteers from Greenpoint Cats intervened.
“Life outside was hard for him—he’s too sociable to fend for himself,” a rescue representative said.
A Personality Unleashed
Once indoors, Mango’s true nature shone. Described as “large and in charge—of your lap,” the FIV+ cat (which only means a slightly weakened immune system) brims with energy and affection.
His foster caregivers quickly learned his quirks: confident exploration, expert kneading, and an insistence on becoming a 15-pound lap warmer. “He’ll climb on top of you and snooze until your legs go numb,” the rescue shared.
Biscuits, Bakes, and Zoomies
Mango’s talents extend beyond cuddles. A self-styled “biscuit-making champion” (his kneading prowess rivals The Great British Bake Off), he also boasts acrobatic skills—launching across rooms with “flawless landings” during zoomies.
Yet his favorite pastime remains bonding with humans, often resting a paw on them for connection. “He’s happiest as your personal heater,” his foster family noted.
Ready for Forever
Now thriving indoors, Mango dreams of a permanent home where his “weighted blanket” snuggles and playful spirit can flourish. “After life on the streets, he’s making up for lost love,” the rescue said.
