A once-scrappy street cat named Cloudy is now embracing a gentler life — and he’s ready for a forever home.
Cloudy, a three-legged feline with a calm spirit and a loud purr, has been living at the Watauga Humane Society in North Carolina for nearly 100 days. Shelter staff say he is beginning to thrive indoors after surviving the harsh realities of street life.
“He melts under a good head scratch and leans into affection like he’s been waiting for it his whole life,” said Danielle Deschamps, the shelter’s communications coordinator, in a statement to McClatchy News. “His purr can fill a room. He’s discovering the joys of indoor life, and you can see how much he’s savoring it.”
Cloudy was rescued from a greenhouse where he lived with around 15 other stray cats. The greenhouse belonged to a man who, despite having little, gave the animals food, shelter, and patience. “Many of them were struggling, some with visible health issues,” Deschamps said. “But all were cared for with quiet devotion.”
The cats were part of a colony, surviving together in rough conditions. Cloudy stood out for his resilience. He was eventually brought to the shelter, arriving with only three legs but full of courage.
No one knows for sure how Cloudy lost his leg. Shelter staff believe it may have been due to a wild animal encounter. Whatever the cause, he healed on his own before arriving at the humane society.
Now, Cloudy spends his days relaxing on soft beds and sunny windowsills — a stark contrast to the challenges of his former life. Shelter staff say he is adjusting well and ready for a second chance.
“He deserves a home as gentle as his heart,” Deschamps added.
Cloudy is still waiting for that home, one where he can continue to enjoy the comfort and love he has only recently discovered.
