Port Chester Man Arrested for Throwing and Injuring Cat

A Port Chester man was arrested on Wednesday and charged with animal cruelty after a video showed him violently throwing a cat, according to the SPCA of Westchester.

The SPCA said its Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) officers received a tip about the abuse involving a tuxedo cat named Mittens. The incident occurred at a home in Rye Brook.

The video shows Anthony Lopez picking up the cat and throwing her across a yard twice during a dispute. As a result, Mittens suffered a head injury. A veterinarian treated the laceration shortly after the incident.

Lopez was taken into custody on Wednesday by SPCA HLE officers and Rye Brook Police.

“This video was deeply disturbing,” said Shannon Laukhuf, CEO of SPCA Westchester. “We’re relieved Mittens is now safe and getting the care she needs.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
