Two small business owners, Eric and Fiona Manson, have received approval to open a new cattery in Monkton, offering live webcams for pet owners to check on their cats.
The couple had previously submitted a planning application to establish the business at their home on Main Street. The proposal has now been approved under delegated powers. Their new venture, The Cottage Cattery, will provide cat boarding facilities for up to 20 cats within a 10-pen unit.
The plans, supported by Avant Architecture, outline the aim to offer high-quality accommodation for travelers, especially those heading to and from Prestwick Airport, as well as for local pet owners. The new business is designed to offer both convenience and flexible boarding options in a comfortable and high-end environment.
The couple emphasized that their focus will be on providing excellent care at affordable prices while contributing to the local economy. Eric and Fiona Manson will co-own the cattery and have outlined their commitment to ensuring “first class boarding facilities” for all cats. They plan to enhance the experience for pet owners by offering the ability to monitor their cats through live webcam feeds.
The couple stated, “We will work together on all business-related decisions, with fairness and collaboration as our guiding principles. This new cattery, located in our garden, will be purpose-built to meet legal standards and provide a loving, safe environment for the cats.”
The Cottage Cattery aims to provide a personal touch in pet care, with modern accommodations and a focus on creating a nurturing atmosphere for every cat. The cattery will also allow for flexible access to each cat’s living space to ensure pet owners can check in whenever they wish.
In approving the proposal, council papers noted that the new business is unlikely to negatively impact the surrounding area or the Monkton Conservation Area. Conditions were placed on the approval to ensure the project met local standards.
