LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A kitten named Savannah, rescued from a dumpster fire in May, has fully recovered and been adopted by the veterinary assistant who helped nurse her back to health, The Animal Foundation announced.
Alex Reyes, a vet assistant at Pet Health animal hospital in Las Vegas, was part of the team that treated Savannah’s severe burns when the nonprofit brought the 4-week-old feline in for emergency care.
A Painful Beginning
Savannah suffered third-degree burns on her ears, tail, and paw pads, according to The Animal Foundation’s Facebook post. Donations covered her medical treatment, but her survival was far from certain.
“When she first arrived, she couldn’t eat or breathe without assistance,” Reyes told KTNV. “We had to monitor her constantly.”
A Bond Forms
Over weeks of care, Reyes grew attached to the resilient kitten. “I fell in love with the little fighter who wouldn’t quit,” he said. When Savannah was cleared for adoption, he didn’t hesitate to take her home.
Now thriving, Savannah sports a unique look from her injuries. “You’ll never find another cat with half-ears or what we call a ‘fake nose,’” Reyes joked. “It makes her cute and different.”
A New Chapter
The Animal Foundation celebrated the adoption on Facebook, noting Savannah’s playful and adventurous personality. Reyes hopes her story encourages others to adopt rescue pets.
“No matter their injuries, animals can recover,” he said. “Every one deserves a second chance—and Savannah got hers.”
