Montreal, QC — Earlier this month, a young, pregnant stray cat wandered into a local feral cat colony in search of food—and found a lifeline.
A volunteer with Chatons Orphelins Montréal, a rescue organization that assists community cats, spotted the underweight feline and immediately intervened. Recognizing her advanced pregnancy, they brought her into their care, naming her Minah.
A New Beginning
At just a year old, Minah was frail but friendly, quickly warming up to her rescuers despite her unfamiliar surroundings.
“We could tell she had been struggling—she was very thin for how far along she was,” said Celine Crom of Chatons Orphelins Montréal in an interview with Love Meow. “But she was sweet and trusting, craving affection from the moment she arrived.”
The team provided a quiet, comfortable space for Minah to rest and regain strength. Soon, she was happily kneading blankets, rolling onto her back for belly rubs, and nuzzling her caregivers.
A Safe Delivery
Just days later, Minah went into labor in her cozy teepee bed, delivering three healthy female kittens in just three hours. Each weighed between 100 and 120 grams at birth.
Despite being a first-time mother, Minah proved to be exceptionally attentive. “She purred throughout the entire process, even when her foster mom assisted,” Crom noted. “She’s still a kitten herself, but she took to motherhood naturally.”
A Close Call for the Smallest Kitten
The rescue team monitored the newborns closely, weighing them three times daily. When the smallest kitten began losing weight, they stepped in with supplemental feedings.
“Without that extra care, she might not have survived,” Crom explained. “But thanks to round-the-clock support, she caught up quickly and is now thriving with her siblings.”
Minah remains devoted to her babies but still seeks affection from her foster family, often reaching out a paw as if to hold hands.
What’s Next for Minah and Her Kittens?
The trio—now active and growing—will begin opening their eyes in the coming days. Once the kittens are weaned, Minah will be spayed and adopted into a forever home where she can be the center of attention.
“This is her last litter,” Crom said. “She’s given so much love—now it’s her turn to be spoiled.”
