New York, NY – A sweet tabby cat living in the stairwell of a New York City building has been rescued and given a second chance at life, thanks to the efforts of local animal rescuers and a compassionate foster volunteer.
A Cry for Help in the Cold
Last week, Little Wanderers NYC, an animal rescue organization, received a call about a friendly stray tabby found sheltering in a freezing stairwell. The cat, later named Tigerlilly, had been surviving on scraps while braving the harsh winter weather.
“She was sleeping on a plastic bag, wondering if food was coming,” the rescue told Love Meow. “It wasn’t a safe environment—temperatures were dropping, and she needed help.”
Despite her rough circumstances, Tigerlilly was remarkably affectionate. When a neighbor checked on her, the tabby immediately stood on her tiptoes, leaning in for pets before nestling into their lap.
A Swift Rescue and Warm Welcome
Since the neighbor couldn’t foster due to a no-pet policy, Little Wanderers NYC intervened. Just two hours after posting a foster request, volunteer Jordyne opened her home to Tigerlilly.
“She was super happy to be warm and have some food and company,” Jordyne said. The moment she arrived, the once-shivering cat curled up on a rug, purring contentedly as she soaked up affection.
A New Life Begins
After a vet visit confirmed she was healthy, Tigerlilly’s playful personality emerged. She chased laser pointers, kneaded blankets, and became a permanent lap cat.
“Fostering saves lives—it gets cats out of the cold and into loving homes,” Jordyne emphasized.
Now, instead of a plastic bag, Tigerlilly sleeps soundly on a warm bed—her days of uncertainty behind her.
Little Wanderers NYC shared, “She may just stay in her foster home forever. This sweet girl deserves all the love.”
Thanks to a community effort, Tigerlilly’s future looks brighter than ever.
