When volunteers from Alley Cat Project responded to a call about cats living among vehicles and debris on a lot, they discovered two timid ginger kittens clinging to each other for security. Foster volunteer Josh Norem took them in, giving the pair—dubbed Purr Monster and Twinkle Toes—a safe space to heal.
A Slow Start
The kittens were terrified upon arrival, huddling in a corner. Twinkle Toes, the shyer of the two, hid behind his more confident brother, Purr Monster. “He leaned on him like a lifeline,” Norem told Love Meow.
By the second day, Purr Monster began exploring, lured by food and gentle encouragement. Twinkle Toes, however, remained cautious, using his brother as a shield. “All the hissing and flattened ears were just fear,” Norem said. “Once he tasted treats and felt a warm lap, his tiny purr kicked in.”
From Hisses to Head-Butts
Within a week, Twinkle Toes transformed. “He went from spitting to purring the second he was touched—sometimes with this adorable chirp,” Norem shared. Meanwhile, Purr Monster lived up to his name, becoming an instant lap cat. “He’ll purr just looking at you and follow you everywhere,” Norem said.
The brothers’ bond proved unshakable. They ate, played, and even groomed in sync. “Twinkle Toes still looks to Purr Monster for reassurance, but now he’s just as affectionate—just on his own terms,” Norem added.
A Bright Future
Now thriving, the duo spends days zooming around the house and nights curled up together—or on their foster dad. “They’re the definition of love bugs,” Norem said. “Purr Monster is the friendliest kitten you’ll ever meet, and Twinkle Toes balances him perfectly.”
As they await adoption, one thing is certain: wherever they go, they’ll stick together. “They’re two peas in a pod,” Norem said. “A fantastic, well-adjusted pair.”
