NEW YORK CITY — A shivering kitten, left alone in a stairwell with only a small cup of food and water, has blossomed into a playful, affectionate companion after being rescued by a dedicated foster volunteer.
A Rainy Rescue
The kitten’s ordeal began when a neighbor discovered him abandoned in a Brooklyn apartment building. “They didn’t want the cat and were moving,” said Alyssa, a volunteer with Puppy Kitty NY City, who rushed to the scene after receiving a plea for help.
At first, the frightened feline was nowhere to be found—until Alyssa spotted him wedged near the ceiling, perched precariously on a pressure gauge. Luring him down with treats, she gently scooped him up and brought him to safety.
From Scared to Snuggly
Named Jardani, the timid kitten quickly shed his fears in foster care. Within hours, he was kneading blankets, purring nonstop, and nuzzling into Alyssa for chin scratches. “His purr motor runs constantly,” she said. “When he wants love, he climbs into my lap or yells with the tiniest meow—then goes completely floppy.”
But Jardani’s biggest joy came when he met his foster siblings: DJ Mittens, a wobbly but affectionate cat, and Monchichi, an energetic playmate. The trio became inseparable—wrestling, chasing toys, and even grooming each other between zoomies.
A Natural Foster Brother
Despite his rough start, Jardani has become a doting companion. He often wraps an arm around Mittens, giving him gentle face washes, while he and Monchichi engage in daily high-speed races. “They’re always grooming or play-fighting,” Alyssa laughed. “Mitts loves the attention, and Jardani’s confidence has rubbed off on them all.”
Now thriving, Jardani splits his time between acrobatic leaps onto cat trees and demanding cuddle sessions. “He’s pure love,” Alyssa said. “Who could say no to that face?”
