Montreal, QC – When a group of seven cats were suddenly left without a home after their owner passed away, they faced an uncertain future—until a compassionate bystander stepped in.
Samuel, a local worker, stumbled upon the frightened felines while on the job. “They were clearly hungry and dehydrated,” recounted Chatons Orphelins Montreal, the rescue organization later involved. “He gave them water, which they drank eagerly, then rushed to a convenience store for canned food. They devoured it immediately.”
Realizing the cats couldn’t survive outdoors, Samuel borrowed a humane trap, secured all seven, and brought them to his home while searching for a rescue to take them in.
An Unexpected Arrival
The sickest cat was quickly transferred to Chatons Orphelins Montreal for medical care. But while Samuel fostered the remaining six, one of them—a timid tabby named Lilah—surprised everyone by giving birth to three kittens.
With his home now overflowing with cats, Samuel reached out again to the rescue. “Lilah was extremely anxious, and her newborns were underweight,” the organization shared. A foster home was swiftly arranged to provide the family a quiet, safe space.
Road to Recovery
To boost Lilah’s milk supply, rescuers placed her on a nutrient-rich diet. Soon, her kittens—Dottie, Iris, and Narcisse—began thriving under daily weigh-ins and attentive care. Though initially wary, Lilah gradually accepted human help, even allowing her foster family near her babies.
Her trust grew further when she started taking treats from a wooden spoon—a small but meaningful breakthrough. As the kittens grew more active, Lilah gained confidence, stepping away briefly to eat and rest while her little ones explored.
A Bright Future
Now two months old, the trio has entered their playful “zoomies” phase, tumbling and wrestling until they collapse into sleepy snuggles. Meanwhile, Lilah has blossomed into a doting mother, keeping her kittens clean and teaching them feline manners—all while learning to enjoy human affection herself.
Thanks to Samuel’s quick action and the rescue’s dedication, these cats have traded uncertainty for a life of comfort. “They’ll only know love from here on,” the organization said.
