New York, NY—A frightened tabby cat, found cowering on the stairs of a subway station last week, has transformed into an affectionate lap cat after a swift rescue by local animal advocates.
Meagan, president of PuppyKittyNYCity, was on her way to work when she received an urgent call about the stranded feline. Despite her rescue being at capacity, she knew she had to act.
“There are some situations you can’t say no to,” Meagan said. “We couldn’t leave him there—not with all the noise and danger of the subway.”
A Terrified Stray, Now a Snuggle Bug
The cat, later named Subway, was found alone, likely abandoned. Overwhelmed by the bustling station, he pressed himself against the stairs, too scared to move—but gentle enough to accept comforting pets from his discoverer.
A volunteer stayed with Subway while Meagan rerouted her commute to help. By the time she arrived, the timid tabby had already curled into the volunteer’s lap, clinging to her as if she were his protector.
Without proper rescue gear on hand, Meagan improvised—emptying her purse and gently tucking Subway inside. The docile cat nestled in without protest, leaning into her as she carried him to safety.
From Subway Stairs to Snuggles
After a vet visit and some much-needed TLC, Subway quickly adapted to indoor life. Within days, the once-terrified stray blossomed into an affectionate companion, seeking laps and purring nonstop.
“He’s literally perfect—so friendly and gentle,” Meagan said. “He’d make a great first pet or a wonderful addition to any home.”
Now estimated to be around a year old, Subway adores playtime but craves human attention even more. He greets volunteers with head-butts and melts into their arms, kneading happily as his purrs fill the room.
A Happy Ending—and a Bright Future
Thanks to quick action from PuppyKittyNYCity, Subway will never have to face the streets again. Rescuers hope he’ll soon find a forever home where he can continue his favorite pastime: being a full-time lap cat.
