A cat owner’s hilarious 3 a.m. wake-up call has gone viral, capturing the attention of social media users everywhere.
In a TikTok video shared in April under the username @mila_n_miley, the poster’s black cat, Mila, is seen frantically trying to flush the toilet. It looks as if Mila is trying to hide something from her owner. “Woke up at 3 am to THIS,” the owner writes in the clip. The caption adds, “Please, just let me sleep once.”
Mila’s choice of time to make noise was no accident—like many cats, she picked the middle of the night to cause trouble. But why do cats often misbehave at night? Nighttime activity is actually normal for felines. Cats are crepuscular animals, meaning they are naturally active at dawn and dusk, a behavior inherited from their wild ancestors. This nocturnal schedule helped them hunt for prey while avoiding predators that weren’t as skilled at night hunting.
If your cat’s late-night antics are disrupting your sleep, there are ways to address it, though it’s important to rule out any medical issues first. Conditions like feline dementia, dental disease, or arthritis could also keep a cat awake. Additionally, if your cat isn’t spayed or neutered, mating behaviors may be the cause. If your cat is healthy, tiring them out with playtime before bed can help reduce late-night energy surges.
The video has been viewed over 1.4 million times and received more than 214,000 likes on TikTok. Commenters couldn’t get enough of Mila’s late-night behavior. One user, TheSheffieldBard, joked: “Don’t disturb the void when it’s making acute scientific observations.” Another, Sharafchiger, shared, “Mine ALWAYS plays with plastic bags when I’m asleep, wakes me up every single time.” A third commenter, Egg, humorously noted: “If you look closely… you can almost see a thought forming.”
Mila’s midnight mischief has not only entertained her owner but has also left the internet laughing and relating to the quirks of feline behavior.
