New York, NY — A clever stray kitten took his fate into his own paws last week when he hopped into a parked truck—unbeknownst to him, the perfect vehicle for a second chance.
The six-month-old orange tabby, now named Carl, boldly climbed into the truck of a longtime volunteer with Little Wanderers NYC, an animal rescue organization. Instead of shooing him away, the driver found the friendly feline making himself at home, tail held high as he explored the cabin.
“This sweet kitten jumped into the truck and refused to leave,” the rescue shared with Love Meow.
Carl, like many stray cats in New York City, had been surviving on the streets—but his trusting demeanor suggested he wasn’t meant for outdoor life. Volunteers couldn’t turn him away, despite a closed intake list. “We didn’t want to send him to our overcrowded shelter,” they said.
After a vet visit confirmed he was healthy, Carl charmed his way into a foster home with Elizabeth Liu. “He knew he was safe when he got to eat an entire can of wet food by himself,” Liu told Love Meow. The once-homeless kitten quickly adapted, following his foster mom around, “helping” with chores, and even attempting (and failing) to intimidate her resident cat.
Now, Carl spends his days basking in sunlight by the window, purring nonstop, and awaiting his forever home. “He’s an absolute doll—playful and full of love,” Liu said.
Thanks to his bold leap into the right truck—and the compassion of rescuers—Carl’s days of scavenging are over. His future? A throne of his own, complete with endless cuddles.
