JACKSON, Tenn. — A missing cat was safely returned to its home on Sunday night after quick action by the local community and law enforcement.
Kit-Kat, the beloved cat of Greenway Nursery, was reportedly stolen around 4:30 p.m. by two customers, according to a post shared on Facebook. The post quickly gained attention, being shared over 1,000 times.
By 10:30 p.m., Kit-Kat was back with nursery owner Chris Williams, thanks to help from store employees, the Milan Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Department, and an off-duty Tennessee Highway Patrol officer.
“A customer saw the women take the cat. They were acting strangely, asking questions and playing with her. It raised suspicions right away,” said Williams.
The suspects were identified easily because they paid with a card. Police tracked them down, and within an hour of the report, Kit-Kat was safely recovered.
Williams expressed gratitude to everyone involved. “It’s amazing how many people care — our friends, our customers, and those who love animals. We really appreciate it,” he said. He also thanked both police departments, noting that Madison County officers were the ones who recovered the cat.
No charges are being filed, as the family is just happy to have Kit-Kat home and unharmed.
Williams also advised pet owners to consider microchipping their animals, saying this type of situation could happen to anyone.
