INDIANA — A gray cat, abandoned at a local veterinary clinic early last year, had no way of telling rescuers her true name—or the loving home she had lost.
After being nursed back to health by IndyHumane, an animal shelter in Indiana, the feline—dubbed Foxy by staff—was adopted. But her journey was far from over. Last month, she was returned to the shelter, heartbroken and withdrawn.
“Foxy wasn’t adjusting well to shelter life again,” Jenna Habisch, a spokesperson for IndyHumane, told The Dodo. The once-friendly cat had become reclusive, shying away from human contact.
Then, a miracle happened.
A Familiar Face
This week, Erianna, a local resident, was browsing IndyHumane’s adoption listings when she froze—staring back at her was November, her beloved cat who had vanished over a year ago.
“My family kept saying it wasn’t her,” Erianna recalled. “But I knew in my heart it was November.”
Rushing to the shelter with old photos, Erianna provided undeniable proof: the markings matched perfectly, and the timeline aligned with November’s disappearance.
An Instant Reconnection
The moment Erianna entered Foxy’s enclosure, the cat’s demeanor transformed.
“Our team couldn’t get her to come down, but her owner coaxed her immediately,” Habisch said. “It was clear—this was her cat.”
Overwhelmed with emotion, Erianna called out, and the cat responded without hesitation. “The reaction was so pure,” she said. “I knew it was her.”
Coming Home
Now back in her rightful home, November has rediscovered her old self.
“Since bringing her home, her personality has flourished,” Erianna said. “She’s exactly how I remember her.”
For IndyHumane staff, the reunion was a heartwarming reminder of why they do what they do.
“This is the kind of happy ending we always hope for,” Habisch said.
After more than a year apart, November and Erianna are finally making up for lost time—proving that some bonds can’t be broken.
