With consumers’ doubts about cat food quality, the “Transparent Factory” team from People’s Daily visited Wanpy, a core brand of China Pet Food (CPF), to uncover how the brand has become a trusted choice for pet owners in 73 countries over 27 years.
Founded in 1998, Wanpy was among the first Chinese pet food brands to adopt international advanced technologies, standards, and concepts. “From the beginning, our mission has been to provide Chinese pets with high-quality domestic pet food and showcase ‘Chinese reliability’ globally,” recalled Hao Zhongli, Founder and Chairman of CPF and Wanpy. This vision drove Wanpy to compete with international brands on quality for decades.
During the visit, the team observed the production of Wanpy’s 100% Fresh Meat Xiaojindun Cat Food, a premium product refined through 27 years of strict quality control. Wanpy’s products meet the production standards of developed economies like Japan, the U.S., Canada, and the EU, and are sold worldwide across five continents.
Consistently delivering high-quality products requires embedding “quality” into every aspect of operations. “We’ve established 22 modern premium pet food production bases globally to control every supply chain link—a rarity in the industry,” said Li Xiaohui, General Manager of CPF’s 5.0 Smart Dry Food Factory. The Yantai-based 5.0 Smart Factory, a $5.6 million (400 million CNY) super-facility, uses 24/7 intelligent production control systems to monitor processes, minimizing errors.
Even the smallest details reflect Wanpy’s rigor: pipelines made of pharmaceutical-grade 316L stainless steel, food-grade machinery oil, and Swiss Bühler custom production lines that transform premium meat into uniform kibble. The flavorings are made from fresh meat on-site, ensuring the product lives up to its “100% fresh meat, globally export-standard” promise.
Beyond advanced facilities, Wanpy’s secret lies in its Pet Nutrition and Health Research Center (established in 2000), which monitors over 300 pets long-term. “All products undergo 6-month feeding tests to ensure acceptance and nutritional balance,” Li emphasized.
Exporting to 73 countries is not just about orders for Hao Zhongli—it’s about learning global best practices to elevate quality. By building factories with standards four times higher than the industry average and never compromising on quality, Wanpy has proven that Chinese pet food can earn global trust.
