When foster mom Kelsey took in a tiny orange-and-white kitten named Pesto, she had no idea how quickly he’d bond with her resident dogs—or how much mischief he’d bring into their lives.
A Rough Start
Kelsey, an experienced foster caregiver, initially hesitated when asked to take Pesto in. But after worrying about his fate, she couldn’t say no. “I felt guilty not knowing what might happen to him,” she admitted. The moment he arrived, the fluffy kitten charmed his way into her heart.
At just a few weeks old, Pesto was placed in a cozy pen with blankets, toys, and a plushie for comfort—but he wanted more. “He refused to be alone,” Kelsey said. That’s when Penny, one of her dogs, stepped in.
A Dog’s Best Friend
Penny, a seasoned foster helper, immediately soothed the crying kitten with slobbery kisses. Pesto, craving affection, leaned into her warmth. Soon, his confidence grew, and he began exploring the room—inspecting doorstoppers and waddling around like a tiny inspector.
Mealtime proved tricky at first. “He doesn’t really want a bottle but also hasn’t figured out how to eat gruel,” Kelsey explained. Yet Pesto had no trouble playing, especially with Ethel, another gentle dog in the house. He burrowed into her fur, nibbled her muzzle, and even claimed her bed—despite being no bigger than her paw.
A Happy Ending in Sight
After receiving treatment for an undisclosed issue affecting his appetite, Pesto bounced back with vigor. He finished his bottle like a pro and even surprised Fletcher, a senior dog, with an enthusiastic bear hug.
Now, Pesto spends his evenings curled up with his foster family, drinking his bottle while watching TV. In just a week, the once-needy kitten has flourished—thanks to the love of his human and his unlikely canine mentors.
