When Crystal adopted Pikachu, a playful tabby kitten, she couldn’t stop thinking about his mother and siblings still waiting at the shelter. Little did she know, her kindness would lead to the purr-fect happy ending for the whole feline family.
A Loving Tabby Family
The story began when Mama Squirt, a gentle tabby cat, arrived at Exploits Valley SPCA with her four kittens—Pikachu (the lone male) and his sisters, Mew, Meowth, and Eevee. Described as “docile, friendly, and easygoing,” Squirt raised her kittens to be just as affectionate and playful.
The lively litter quickly outgrew their nursery kennel, tumbling through their new shelter room with boundless energy—pouncing on toys, chasing each other, and occasionally ambushing their patient mom. Meanwhile, Squirt, finally free from the stresses of motherhood, basked in the love of staff and volunteers, offering purrs and snuggles in return.
One Adoption Leads to Another
Pikachu was the first to find a home with Crystal, but she couldn’t shake the thought of his family. She introduced her friends, Harry and Denise Hutchings, to the idea of adopting Squirt and one kitten. Though hesitant at first, Harry agreed to visit the shelter—just to look.
That plan unraveled the moment he met Squirt’s pleading eyes. “He decided to foster the whole tabby family to give our crowded shelter a break,” the SPCA shared. Harry left with Squirt and her three remaining kittens, intending to eventually return two for adoption.
A Change of Heart
What started as a temporary arrangement quickly turned permanent. The kittens—now named Mudder, Sook, Coyot, and Runt—zoomed through their foster home like they’d lived there forever. Their antics and Squirt’s unwavering sweetness melted the Hutchings’ hearts.
Weeks later, Harry arrived at the shelter to return two kittens as planned… but left with signed adoption papers for all four. “Instead of bringing two kittens back, he left with four adoption papers. A four-way adoption,” the SPCA announced.
Now, the once-homeless tabby family thrives together, filling their forever home with laughter, love, and endless mischief.
