ORLANDO, FL – A frail, stray kitten with a crust-covered face and visible health issues has undergone a remarkable transformation thanks to the quick actions of a dedicated animal rescuer.
Nadija, a foster volunteer with AnimalLuvr’s Dream Rescue, received a call about a malnourished kitten lingering near a local resident’s home. When she arrived, the timid feline—later named Rue—darted between hiding spots, evading capture.
“She wouldn’t come to us at first,” Nadija told Love Meow. “But after playing a YouTube video of a mother cat meowing, she came running toward me, meowing back like she recognized the sound.”
Emergency Care and Recovery
Rue was rushed to an emergency vet, where she was treated for severe dehydration, an upper respiratory infection, and an eye infection. Despite her discomfort, the kitten kneaded her blanket—a comforting behavior—throughout the night.
“Even in an unfamiliar place, she was making biscuits the whole time,” Nadija said.
After a night of intensive care, Rue began eating and taking medication. By the next morning, her energy and spirit had improved dramatically.
A Newfound Confidence
Back in Nadija’s foster home, Rue slowly shed her fearful demeanor. The crust on her face cleared, her breathing eased, and she discovered the joys of toys and indoor life.
“At first, any noise would startle her,” Nadija recalled. “Now, weeks later, she’s a completely different kitten—playful, curious, and full of confidence.”
Rue’s favorite pastimes include napping in a blanket basket, chasing toys, and sunbathing with fellow foster kitten Ari. She’s also become a pro at finding the sunniest spots in the house.
Ready for a Forever Home
Once a skittish stray, Rue now zooms around the house with her tail held high, cuddles on the couch, and fearlessly explores her surroundings.
“It’s incredible to see her so happy after such a rough start,” Nadija said.
The affectionate kitten is now awaiting adoption, ready to bring her playful spirit and purrs to a loving forever family.
