San Diego, CA — From fragile newborns to mischievous panther-like cats, Laszlo and Lestat have defied the odds—leaning on each other every step of the way.
A Fight for Survival
The brothers were discovered as premature kittens in a backyard, abandoned without their mother. Rescued by the Orphan Kitten Club, they entered foster care alongside their littermates. Lestat, the runt of the litter, faced an uphill battle.
“For the first week, it was touch and go,” said foster mom Yige Zhao, who provided round-the-clock care. Weak and vulnerable, Lestat’s heartbeat often faltered—until his brother intervened.
An Unbreakable Bond
Laszlo became Lestat’s lifeline. Whenever Lestat’s heartbeat slowed, Laszlo wriggled close, nudging him back to stability. “Almost every time, his touch revived Lestat,” Yige told Love Meow. The pair snuggled constantly, with Laszlo draping a protective paw over his brother after meals.
Miraculously, Lestat pulled through, though his early struggles left a temporary “fever coat”—a silvery-gray fur that later darkened.
From Foster Care to Forever
As the kittens grew, their dynamic blossomed. Lestat shadowed Laszlo, mimicking his moves and puffing up to appear tougher. When adoption day arrived, the duo found a perfect match: Amy, their forever owner, welcomed them home.
“They wrestled on my bed the first morning,” Amy laughed. Now, the brothers divide their time between high-speed chases and sunlit naps on their cat tree.
Life as a Dynamic Duo
Though inseparable, their personalities couldn’t be more different.
Laszlo: A “chonky” cuddle enthusiast, always angling for snacks.
Lestat: A nimble troublemaker who opens cabinets and uses furniture—and humans—as parkour courses.
“Lestat once raided the kitchen for hot dog buns and tortillas,” Amy admitted. “But his purrs make up for the chaos.”
Despite their antics, their bond remains unshaken. “They play, fight, and cuddle like best friends,” Amy said. “And they know just how spoiled they are.”
