Pasadena’s Tail Town Cats cat café will reopen on Friday, January 17, following the containment of the Eaton Fire.
The café, located on the border of Altadena and Pasadena, evacuated its 30-plus resident cats early as the fire spread. Staff and volunteers quickly placed the cats with foster families outside the fire zones. Although nearby areas suffered significant damage, the café itself was unharmed.
Gwendolyn Mathers, acting executive director of Tail Town Cats, said petting cats for just 10 minutes can reduce stress. She expressed gratitude that the café can reopen as a peaceful space where the community can relax and connect with cats amid recent challenges.
“Tail Town Cat Café has been very lucky to survive the Eaton Fire,” Mathers said. “We look forward to welcoming cat lovers and inviting them to join us in helping cats, families, and neighbors displaced by this disaster.”
As part of its recovery efforts, Tail Town Cats has launched donation drives to support pets in affected communities. The nonprofit, the largest cat café of its kind in Southern California, accepts tax-deductible donations of pet supplies, including bottled water, cat food, litter, blankets, eye rinse, medical tape, and gauze.
Donations can be dropped off in person from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 1780 E. Washington Blvd., Pasadena.
