A British mental health hospital’s wellness garden became the unlikely stage for a brazen feline caper this week after a mysterious cat broke in—not for mischief, but for a full-blown catnip binge.
Nathaniel, a hospital employee who shared the story on Reddit, discovered the intruder during routine chores. The greenhouse doors were shut, suggesting the crafty visitor had slipped in through a rooftop skylight. Inside, the cat was sprawled beside a pot of patient-grown catnip, indulging without a care.
“The whole scene was as unexpected as it was hilarious,” Nathaniel told The Dodo. “I’ve never seen the cat before. We get a few at work, but never like this.”
Catnip, an herb containing the euphoria-inducing compound nepetalactone, is known to send felines into a state of playful delirium. This particular cat was no exception—clearly riding a wave of feline bliss.
Rather than shooing the trespasser away, Nathaniel opted for hospitality, leaving the greenhouse doors open for a safe exit. “I made sure he could stay safe,” he said. “He was absolutely delightful.”
The hospital’s serene wellness garden, typically a space for patients to relax or garden, now has an unforgettable story to tell—one starring a four-legged, catnip-fueled bandit.
