LOS ANGELES — When two malnourished, flea-ridden kittens named Polly and Charlie arrived at Best Friends Animal Society, their future was uncertain. But thanks to a dedicated foster volunteer, the siblings not only recovered—they thrived, leaning on each other every step of the way.
A Fragile Beginning
At just five weeks old, the kittens weighed barely more than two-week-old newborns. Both were battling upper respiratory infections and carried heavy flea infestations. “They were incredibly frail and terrified,” foster mom Frankie told Love Meow.
Charlie, a gray tabby, was especially fearful. “He’d hiss and moan if I tried to hold him,” Frankie recalled. But their strong appetites and bond gave her hope.
Comfort in Each Other
Frankie set up a cozy playpen with plush bedding, toys, and nutritious food—yet the pair chose to huddle together in a tiny cardboard box. “They clung to each other to decompress,” she said.
Polly, the bolder sibling, became Charlie’s anchor. While he hid behind furniture, she stayed close, nudging him toward confidence. Side by side, they ate, napped with paws entwined, and even wrestled a plush bunny. “Their bond was key to their progress,” Frankie noted.
Breaking Barriers
With Polly’s encouragement, Charlie gradually warmed to human touch. By week’s end, both were purring in Frankie’s lap. “Charlie would never have relaxed without her,” she said. “Now he’s a total lap cat—belly up, paws stretched out.”
Their physical health improved too: eyes clear, coats glossy, energy soaring.
A Testament to Resilience
The siblings, now playful and social, are proof of how love and stability can transform lives. “Watching Charlie’s walls come down was magical,” Frankie said. “Their bond melts everyone they meet.”
As they await adoption, one thing is certain: wherever they go, they’ll go together.
