SOMERSET, England — Ferne Animal Sanctuary, a long-standing rescue and rehoming charity in Somerset, has officially opened a new on-site boarding facility for dogs and cats. The new service offers overnight and long-term stays in a peaceful countryside setting, located in the scenic Blackdown Hills.
Launching this week, the sanctuary now provides a “safe, comfortable and enriching” environment for pet owners seeking trusted boarding options. The facility features purpose-built kennels and cattery units designed to meet the individual needs of each animal.
Each dog kennel includes underfloor heating and an attached outdoor run. Dogs are given a daily 45-minute walk, enrichment activities, and access to a sensory garden. An agility course is also available for dogs that enjoy more active play.
The cattery is set in a quiet area overlooking the sanctuary’s plantation. Each insulated pen features air purification, soft music for stress reduction, and a variety of bedding and climbing choices. Cats also have secure outdoor runs attached to their pens.
Kevan Hodges, CEO of Ferne Animal Sanctuary, said the new facilities reflect the charity’s 85-year legacy of exceptional animal care.
“For pet owners planning holidays or needing care for their animals, we understand how important it is to find the right place,” Hodges said. “Every pet has a unique personality, and that’s exactly how we treat them.”
The sanctuary also provides 24-hour on-site care, with animal welfare staff on duty overnight and veterinary support available locally.
Boarding prices begin at £15 per night for cats and £25 per night for dogs. Discounts are offered for multiple pets, first-time adopters, and military personnel.
All profits from the boarding service will go directly toward supporting the 300 rescued animals currently in Ferne’s care.
