When a 6-year-old sang “If You’re Happy and You Know It” to her cat, the feline’s pitch-perfect response stole the internet’s heart — and challenged the myth that pets don’t understand us.
In a now-viral TikTok clip, the little girl belts out the children’s classic alongside her black cat, Bebe. At the lyric “If you’re happy and you know it, say meow,” Bebe delivers an uncanny “meow” on cue, leaving viewers in awe.
A Spontaneous Moment Turned Sensation
The girl’s mother, Kelly, tells PEOPLE the moment was unplanned. “We were in the front yard, and my daughter loves singing to our cats,” she says. “When Bebe joined in, we were stunned. It was pure magic.”
The video, viewed millions of times, sparked a wave of adoration. “Commenters called my daughter a Disney princess,” Kelly laughs. “Bebe does follow her everywhere — their bond is straight out of a fairy tale.”
From Stray to Star
Bebe’s backstory makes his fame sweeter. Rescued at just 7 months old by Kelly’s family through their grassroots effort, Cloudy’s Cat Cottage, the once-homeless kitten now reigns over their small farm. “He knew he was home immediately,” Kelly says. “He’s brilliant — responds to his name, loves cuddles, and ‘makes biscuits’ like a pro.”
But it’s Bebe’s bond with Kelly’s daughter that stands out. “She’s loved animals since infancy — her first word was ‘cat,’” Kelly shares. “She taught me how special cats are. I was a dog person before her.”
A Lesson in Love
For Kelly, the video’s success highlights a universal truth: “Animals bring light to chaos,” she reflects. “This little moment of joy reminded people what really matters — connection.”
And as a mom? “Watching my child share her kindness with the world?” Kelly pauses. “That’s the real gift.”
