San Diego, CA — An 8-week-old kitten is recovering safely after being rescued from the frame of a truck in a delicate operation conducted by the San Diego Humane Society.
The rescue was initiated Monday afternoon when a truck driver reported hearing faint meowing at a stop sign. Upon inspection, the driver discovered a black-and-white kitten trapped in a narrow gap within the vehicle’s frame.
A Delicate Extraction
Responding swiftly, the Humane Society dispatched a veterinary team and Humane Officers to the scene.
“After sedating the kitten, our team carefully used Q-tips to free her head from the tight space,” the organization shared in a Facebook post. The rescued feline was then transported to the Escondido Campus for medical treatment, including pain relief, antibiotics, fluids, and nourishment.
Community Applauds Rescue Effort
The heartwarming story drew an outpouring of support on social media, with many praising both the truck driver and the Humane Society.
“HUGE thank you to the truck driver, too!” one commenter wrote. “Not sure how many would stop for a meowing kitten. Stories like this restore my faith in humanity.”
Another added, “That poor baby! Thank you for saving her!”
Next Steps for the Kitten
According to the Humane Society, the kitten is doing well and is currently under a mandatory three-day stray hold, as required by law. The organization’s policy ensures stray animals undergo a holding period to allow potential reunification with owners before adoption.
Under California law, finders of stray animals must make efforts to locate the original owner or follow legal steps—such as vaccinations, licensing, and microchipping—before claiming ownership.
The kitten’s future will be determined after the stray hold period ends. For now, she rests safely, thanks to the quick actions of a vigilant driver and a dedicated rescue team.
