A touching scene at a local garden shop has gone viral after a photo of a cat curled up under a stranger’s jacket captured widespread attention on Reddit.
Reddit user u/RudeExplanation9304 shared the image in the “aww” subreddit, showing a gray cat named Liam lying peacefully on a wooden bench. He was nestled beneath a fur-lined yellow jacket, left behind by an unknown visitor. The post has since earned over 54,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments.
“Someone wrapped up the cat at my local garden shop and left their jacket,” the user wrote.
Liam, the resident cat at the shop, is well known in the neighborhood. In follow-up comments, the poster explained that Liam has full access to the indoor space through a cat door and receives love and attention from both staff and nearby residents. “He is spoiled by the whole surrounding neighborhood,” they added.
The Redditor, who works next door, said Liam has been a comforting presence for years. “I always take time to pet him. If I’m ever feeling down, he’s always there for a cuddle,” they wrote. “It’s the little things that make it all worth it—like some stranger leaving a jacket for a cat. Little acts of kindness go farther than anyone can imagine.”
While Liam enjoyed his cozy moment, the jacket didn’t stay with him for long. The original poster later updated the thread with a lighthearted note: “Poor Liam now clothless lol,” after the jacket’s owner came back to retrieve it.
Experts say this type of behavior is not uncommon among cats. According to Catster, cats often burrow under blankets or warm coverings due to their instincts as “bush dwellers.” These safe, covered spaces help them feel secure and calm, mimicking the protective environments their wild ancestors once sought.
