Montreal, QC — A helpless calico kitten, found alone under a neighborhood balcony with no mother in sight, is now flourishing in foster care thanks to a community effort.
The kitten, later named Kicklie, was discovered cold and weak at just three weeks old. A Good Samaritan attempted to bottle-feed her but soon reached out to Chatons Orphelins Montréal, a local rescue specializing in orphaned kittens.
“A neonatal kitten without a mother needs round-the-clock feeding and warmth to survive,” the rescue explained. “When we took her in, her paws were icy—we warmed her up immediately and started her on a bottle.”
A Rough Start, a Swift Recovery
Despite initial stomach troubles, Kicklie showed resilience. After her first full meal, she curled into a soft blanket and clung to her foster mom’s hand as she slept. Weighing only 322 grams—less than a can of soda—she had a long road ahead.
But progress came quickly. “Once she mastered latching onto the bottle, she gained strength daily,” her foster mom shared. Within a week, Kicklie was using the litter box independently and tipping the scales at over 500 grams.
A Kitten on the Go
To ensure frequent feedings, Kicklie became a tiny traveler, accompanying her foster mom everywhere in a cozy, heated carrier dubbed her “cat-mobile.” Her playful personality won over everyone she met.
Soon, she was batting at crinkly toys and fearlessly greeting the resident cats—despite their size advantage. “She waddled right up to them, full of confidence,” the rescue laughed.
Bright Future Ahead
Now thriving, Kicklie has traded her kitten bassinet for a spacious playpen, where she practices running and explores her world. A glass bowl became her latest obsession—she curled inside it like a nest, only to perk up for cuddles when her foster mom appeared.
“Her tummy issues are resolved, and she’s learning to play,” the team said. Soon, she’ll join other foster kittens for socialization and mischief.
Thanks to quick action and dedicated care, Kicklie’s story—once uncertain—is now one of warmth, growth, and endless affection.
