Llangollen Woman’s Final Wish to Support Cat Charity Fulfilled

Janette Hyde, a Llangollen woman who battled breast cancer for years, passed away on January 31, 2025, at the age of 57, after a long fight against the disease. Initially diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2017, Janette underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, managing to keep the cancer at bay for several years. However, the cancer returned three years ago as Omentum cancer, leading to multiple chemotherapy treatments. Despite her courageous efforts, cancerous tumours appeared on her brain in the summer of 2024, marking the final chapter of her fight.

Janette’s husband, Adrian, fondly recalled her loving nature, saying, “Janette had not a bad bone in her body and loved everyone. She was hugely passionate about all animals, especially cats, and supported several cat charities throughout her life.” Janette was especially dedicated to fostering and homing cats, including their own beloved pets: Trigger, Tazer, Moley, and Smudgie. Among the charities she supported was the Candy and Tibby Trust, an organization she deeply admired.

In her final wish, Janette hoped to help the Trust by donating a vehicle to assist Paul Conway, who runs the organization. Through the efforts of Adrian, family, friends, and Janette’s colleagues at Practice Plan in Oswestry, funds were raised to purchase a second-hand Discovery, an ex-ambulance response vehicle, which has now been donated to the Candy and Tibby Trust.

Adrian explained, “Practice Plan set up a JustGiving page which raised £3,000. Additionally, a collection raised £250, and I personally donated £500 worth of cat food and supplies, filling up the 4×4.”

The Candy and Tibby Trust, established in Wrexham and run by Paul Conway since 2019, is a non-profit cat rescue organization. Its mission is to rehome unwanted stray cats by reducing local feral colonies through TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) and placing cats in quiet environments such as farms, smallholdings, allotments, or stables. The Trust also supports a neutering campaign to prevent unwanted litters and provides advice on general cat health.

Paul Conway expressed his gratitude for Janette and Adrian’s support: “Adrian Hyde and his amazing, selfless late wife Janette have been a huge support to my rescue for many years. Even in her final days, Janette wanted to help our cause, ensuring that Adrian would continue to support my work. Despite the heartbreaking circumstances, Adrian bought an ex-ambulance to help us save more cats. I am incredibly grateful for their support, especially as we were struggling financially with only £600 left in the bank and a weekly food bill of around £400.”

Paul also highlighted the emotional impact of Janette’s kindness, saying, “Janette had a way of lighting up any room with her love and passion. She is deeply missed.” Thanks to the support from Janette and Adrian, the Candy and Tibby Trust is now able to continue its vital work in rescuing and rehoming cats, providing them with a brighter future.
