Raul, the star healing cat that was once active on campus, has officially retired, but the healing story he left behind with his partner Carl continues. These two special domestic cats, with their gentle and confident personalities, have broken the stereotype that “only dogs are suitable as therapeutic animals” and become little assistants to help children read and express their emotions.
Raul’s uniqueness emerged as early as his childhood. The owner, Sarah Morr, discovered that this kitten was not afraid of the noisy scene of children playing at all. Instead, it enjoyed interacting with people. After professional certification and assessment – including stress resistance tests and temperament screening – Raul successfully “entered” the campus. It not only accompanies children in reading, but also relieves their stress through quiet listening, and even participates in classroom activities such as scientific experiment observation.
Because of the remarkable results, Sarah later invited another cat, Carl, who loved to ride in a baby carriage, to join the team. The two cats brought comfort to the teachers and students with their calm postures. Raul was even described by his owner as “the calmest and most patient cat”. Although Raul has now retired and returned to family life, it has proved that cats can also be excellent therapeutic animals, providing unique emotional value in areas such as convalescence and education.
Their experiences have inspired more people to pay attention to animal-assisted therapy, especially the potential of cats in mental health support. Just as Sarah said, “Raul has left his mark in many people’s hearts.”
