Kelly Duer from Virginia adopted three cats with special needs, and each cat‘s personality is as unique as their challenges. Among them, a little cat named Java has touched the hearts of people all over the world with its tenacity and positive attitude towards life.
When the animal rescue organization Nova Pets Alive took Java in, they contacted the long-time volunteer Kelly. Java not only suffers from upper respiratory tract infections and hair problems, but also has paralyzed hind legs, resulting in difficulty in movement and incontinence. However, Java was not defeated by difficulties. Kelly prepared a wheelchair for her, but Java prefers to move freely and shows astonishing vitality.
Java also traveled with Kelly, changing people’s prejudice against disabled cats. Many rescue workers once thought that cats with incontinence or disabilities had a low quality of life, but after seeing Java’s joy, their concepts changed.
At home, Java gets along well with the other two cats with special needs – Paco and Tiny. Paco was once psychologically scarred by long-term caged care, while Tiny was born with clubfoot. Nowadays, the three cats keep each other company and have a deep bond.
Kelly said that although taking care of cats with special needs is full of challenges, the rewards far exceed expectations. The bond between them and me is incredibly strong. This is an unprecedented experience. Her story demonstrates the power of love and acceptance, inspiring more people to pay attention to pets with special needs.
