A pair of newly adopted sister cats have captured the hearts of millions online after a touching video of their first week in their new home went viral.
Shared on TikTok by the account @lillylucysisters, the video features two tabby cats named Lilly and Lucy. In the clip, they are seen curled up together in their owner’s arms, peacefully purring as they nap side by side.
Overlay text in the video reads, “Imagine adopting two rescue sister cats… and this happens in the very first week. Can you imagine what my heart feels like?” The caption underneath adds, “My heart was exploding.”
Adopting two kittens from the same litter can be rewarding but unpredictable. According to Catster, in an article reviewed by veterinarian Dr. Maja Platisa, kittens usually get along from around three to four weeks old until they reach social maturity between two and five years of age. After that, their relationship can shift.
Sister cats may form strong bonds, often cuddling and grooming each other. However, some may prefer more personal space and simply coexist. Male littermates tend to compete more and may either become close or clash often.
Bringing home two kittens together has several benefits. They offer each other constant companionship, entertainment, and warmth. They also help keep each other active through play. To avoid conflict, experts recommend giving each cat its own litter box, food bowl, and water dish. Pheromone diffusers can also help create a more calming home environment.
The video of Lilly and Lucy has drawn over 5.9 million views and 1.6 million likes on TikTok. Viewers were quick to share their reactions.
One user, XENA, commented, “Can you imagine what my heart feels like watching this with a cat who hates physical touch?! JEALOUS.” Another user, average.rosie, joked, “This is actually really dangerous because your heart may actually melt and/or cease to beat at the proper rhythm because of how sweet they are. Be careful!!”
User Rachcondi added humorously, “This is all I want from my non-affectionate cat but she looks at me like she is plotting my death.”
As the internet continues to buzz, Lilly and Lucy have quickly become symbols of the joy and comfort rescue pets can bring—especially when they come in pairs.
