A pit bull named Opie has taken the internet by storm after a viral video showed him mimicking the behavior of the cats who raised him. The TikTok clip, posted under the username @justopiethings, has gained over 30.8 million views and 6.7 million likes since Saturday.
In the video, Opie is seen curling into a loaf position, squeezing into small cat beds, and copying the mannerisms of his feline companions. The overlay text reads, “Do you want to see what a pit bull raised by cats looks like?” The caption humorously adds, “Part cat part… Maine Coon?”
While it’s common to think of cats and dogs as opposites, they can form strong bonds when introduced properly. According to the animal charity Dog Trust, some dogs can become too excited around cats, which can be dangerous. In such cases, it’s not safe for them to live together.
Experts recommend gradual introductions, starting with scent swapping and then slowly removing physical barriers. This allows both animals to feel safe and adjust at their own pace.
Although most dogs can be trained to live peacefully with cats—sometimes with help from an animal behaviorist—certain breeds are more compatible. Friendly dogs like Labrador retrievers, golden retrievers, and beagles tend to do best with cats. On the feline side, Maine Coons, Ragdolls, and Siamese are known for welcoming canine friends.
Opie’s video has drawn over 19,000 comments from amused viewers. One user, mariahargrove5, wrote, “The way his facial expressions show how much he is judging you, just like a cat, is absolute perfection.”
Another user, Jess, the brazillionaire, commented, “My favorite animals are cats raised by dogs or dogs raised by cats and if you don’t agree, you’re wrong.”
User T joked, “Tell your dog I said pspspspsps,” while Sharp Lives simply said, “10/10 Loaf.”
Opie’s behavior may be unusual, but it’s clear he’s left a lasting impression — one pawstep closer to proving dogs really can learn from their feline friends.
